CREATING POSITIVE IMPACTS

Edition 2 Newsletter

It’s been a busy and thrilling first quarter, we have assessed 7- 8 blocks to ensure we know where land price is going, especially with the changes in OIO and permanent forestry.

We feel our purpose is strong and true keeping NZ land in kiwi hands, and protecting good farming land as well as securing and supporting the future of our next generation.

Some of our clients have shown an increasing interest in pursuing more land for their portfolio. We understand once the forestry bug settles, often you yearn for more.

Let’s get into the nitty gritty of our 2nd newsletter. It’s planting season! This means it's all go from our end and much planning has taken place to ensure the best seedlings have been selected, and early!

As the Forest Leaders team engage with the planters, we’ll be sure to update each asset owner with the progress of their planting.

Our key focus for the next quarter is to keep an eye on the market, complete the planting, find new blocks for investors and prepare for next years planting schedule. There is nothing more exciting than to watch all of the magic of forests unveil.

We found it interesting but not surprising the carbon price went up while everything else is heading south. This result exceeded our expectations, but we expect larger increases to occur at the next two auctions.

“Forest Leaders recommend solutions to their investors which will restore the land, our water and the climate”.

CARBON PRICING

The price of carbon continues to rise. In summary of our article from last the last auction.

The second 2022/23 Government auction of carbon units (which occur once per quarter) cleared at $76.00.  All of the cost containment reserve units were used, meaning there were no more reserve units remaining for the next two auctions.

We will watch with interest in the lead up to the next auction in September. An update on the outcome of this will come shortly after its announcement.

As always, we see our contribution to reducing our carbon footprint as a vital part of our ethos. Since our last newsletter we have converted one of our cars to a PHEV.

Our future generations will reap what we sow, and we are doing what we can to ensure the work we are doing is making a big impact on our environment.

See to your right, the breakdown of our carbon use and where we have improved since our last report.

We have included the footprint toolkit again if you missed it last issue.

PREPARING FOR PLANTING SEASON

In early June, the Forest Leaders team and a crew of photographers/film and drone crew set upon a two day venture in one of our forests to capture the what, how and why of our business. These professional images will be used for our new website and promotional material with improved reports and proposals to follow.

The early mornings and long day in the freezing cold will no doubt show through in some of the photos, but we sure did enjoy galavanting through nature - it's our thing.

We are excited about the upcoming website site and the future of Forest Leaders.
